Wild boar

Sweden has a very viable wild boar population. The Swedish forests offer a varied diet for this sometimes picky omnivore. Sweden is also spared from African swine fever, which occurs on the European continent. This, together with Sweden's very high control requirements, such as trichinosis, guarantees the quality of Swedish wild boar to be probably the highest in the world.

The history of wild boar in Sweden goes back 8,000 years. After becoming extinct in the 19th century, it has re-established itself and is now growing by 20% per year. It is a very shy animal and rarely shows itself during the day. A boar can weigh up to 250kg and is a very impressive sight.
